Myths and Facts about Fertility
Myth 1:
v Infertility in couples occurs only when there is a fault in women.
The Reality is 1/3 of infertility cases occur because of male factors, 1/3 because of female factors and 1/3 by faults in both partners or by unknown causes.
Myth 2:
All couples should try for atleast a year before seeing a fertility specialist
v Usually infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive within a year of regular intercourse without using contraceptive methods. However this is more of a guide line than a rule. Some couples need to seek medical help soon for eg
Women whose age is more than 35years, history of irregular periods, Fibroids, endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy or with repeated miscarriages.
Couples with a male history of surgery, infection or trauma to the genitals
